Disclaimer

The MHP Connector encourages the submission of articles that are relevant to mental health professionals, their clients and people interested in careers in and issues related to the mental health professions in Canada and internationally. The content should be accessible to a general audience and promote conversation across fields and practices in mental health.

The MHP Connector endeavors to ensure diversity of subject matter, approaches, and perspectives. All topics are welcome. Articles which inspire readers to be active participants in their own wellness and which reduce the stigma which can be associated with seeking professional help are encouraged. Observational pieces and research outlines are also of interest.

Articles can be of any length up to 2,000 words. Brief articles of less than 500 words may offer a point of view on current interests in mental health or a comment on a recent work or introduce an article that has not been previously available in English. Responses to previously published articles in The MHP Connector are also welcome. Images and videos related to the context of the articles are encouraged.

All articles should be accessible and of interest to a wide audience from different professional and cultural backgrounds. Please review the following topics in preparing your article for submission. If you have any questions or if you need assistance, please feel free to contact editor@oamhp.ca

Submission Requirements for Original Articles

Articles for submission must be previously unpublished and in English. Papers should be well-written, and we encourage clarity and brevity. It is important that papers be copy-edited before submission. Drafts are not acceptable. In submitting work to The MHP Connector, authors agree to the policies of the platform, including free access and use of the material published in it with proper acknowledgment of authorship and source. If you have any questions about whether your article is appropriate for The MHP Connector, send it directly to the editor for a preliminary review.

In sending an original work to The MHP Connector for possible publication, the submitter attests that the work is authentic and that he or she is the author, that it has not been published, and that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Once an article has been accepted for publication it undergoes a careful editorial process that ensures its conformity to house style. Proofs are sent to the author for approval before publication. The MHP Connector reserves the right to make final decisions in all cases that do not affect the content.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions which do not adhere to these instructions will be returned to the author.

Formatting the Article

The article should be prepared according to the following guidelines in a word processing program:

(1) The length of article is normally no more than 2,000 words including an abstract and notes. An article exceeding the length limit will require special consideration on a case-by-case basis.

(2) The title, abstract and a list of key words should be at the beginning of the article.

(3) Please use section headings in bold type and number them, if applicable.

(4) All citations should be in endnotes and not in the text. Number endnotes sequentially with Arabic numbers.

(5) References should conform to the standard Chicago style and be minimal.

(6) Font should be 11-point Arial, whether in normal, bold, or italic, including endnotes. Please do not insert line breaks in the text or special spacing for formatting.

(7) The paragraph break should be indicated by an extra line space rather than an indentation at the beginning of a paragraph.

(8) Pages should be left-hand margin justified.

Citations from The MHP Connector

Citations of articles published in The MHP Connector should include author, title and date.

Submitting a non-original work to The MHP Connector

If you have recently read an article in another publication you feel is worthy of sharing with The MHP Connector community, please send a link to the relevant article from where it was originally published.

(2) Title of the piece

(3) Name of original publisher and date of publication

(4) A preamble, discussion or commentary of up to 500 words as to why you feel this article has merit and how it is applicable to mental health professionals in Canada. This should be written in a tone which explains to a visitor to The MHP Connector why they may enjoy the full article, not why it should be included on The MHP Connector. It, therefore, addresses our digital visitors, not the editor.

Written permission from the original publication and/or author to reprint the article in The MHP Connector is preferred but not essential as the original publisher and author will be duly noted.
